I went to Kent and Canterbury hospital after dislocating my shoulder Monday night by some horrendously poor technique at closing the door. I was treated by Tara and Alison who were brilliant. I was seen extremely fast and had x rays done within no time at all. Tara popped my shoulder back in place within 2 minutes while Alison was keeping my spirits up with the gas and air... all in all I was in and out within an hour and very greatful to of had such lovely nurses put me right. Thank you Nik
Great hospital! Great staff! Caring, compassionate and efficient ! The staff are a credit to the Trust.
A month since the hips and knees operations were moved from William Harvey, I was very impressed by the level of care and attention given to me throughout my stay. After a long, hungry wait in dressing gown and boredom, my turn arrived and things changed greatly. The anaesthetist and his assistant were splendid and that set the tone to follow. During the port-op wait to be taken up to the ward, I was offered tea and as the wait became a bit of a delay, a second one. I drink buckets of the stuff so this was perfect. I'd been in the ward all of five minutes when I was asked if I'd like some hot food - and a choice, too. The evening meal had finished. Microwaved or not, the omelette was hot and most welcome. Later, I had a nasty reaction to the antibiotics and the reactions of the staff were instant, effective and very caring. That put back my escape by a day, effectively, but I was home by lunchtime on the fourth day, feeling good. Despite a smattering of agency staff , there was generally no indication of a lack of cohesion. We laughed, we tried and I have no criticisms of the nursing at all. One noteworthy incident that shows good nurses are so much better than one might believe from criticisms of or concerns about the current training, systems & management: one patient had some problems, perhaps symptomatic of some dementia, and gave the staff (and the patients) a hard time one night. Despite the lashing out, the nurse spent a long time calming her down and when she went in for a big hug, I blubbed. This may be a typical experience but as I haven't been an in-patient anywhere since 1970, I cannot say. I have an inkling, though, that I would have felt far less comfortable and relaxed at QEQM or William Harvey (anecdotal evidence from friends). I cannot influence the way the NHS is managed or spends its money, much less wastes it, but at least in this particular instance, it delivered much more than I expected. Thank you all.
A nightmare you could not write it as an episode of casualty because it has been unbelieveable. It was bad before but to say its got worse is an understatement inept inadequate and downright not fit for purpose. I revise the stars to minus 3 now.
following a nightmare stay in Ashford i have nothing but praise . found out my problem kept my family informed and the staff, both nurses and doctors were superb. can't make out why 2 hospitals who are part of the same trust are so different.
